"CASEY AT THE BAT"
On June 3, 1888, a poem by Ernest L. Thayer, appeared on page 4
of the Daily Examiner of San Francisco. At the time, the poem wasn't really
noticed. Later that same year, De Wolf Hopper, a comic actor, recited the poem
on stage. The poem was a success onstage and Hopper eventually recited the poem
more than 10,000 times.
